Air Filtration

The filters and air cleaners you see below are whole home air cleaners. Some utilize the air movement system from your air conditioner or heater and all are much more effective than a one room air cleaner.

For an example the average "top rated" ionizing one room air cleaner removes the equivalent amount of contaminants from the air as a 27" television left on 24/7. Some also generate harmful amounts of ozone that can be an extreme lung irritant to allergy and asthma sufferers.

Media air filter

Media air filter

Media air cleaners capture particles as the air flows through a woven media. The media filters are much thicker than a standard filter making a deeper pleat and more surface area to capture airborne contaminants.

Imagine an accordion, the folds or pleats create a very long surface when stretched. The filter is "pleated" in the same way giving it a very large surface area in a condensed space.

These filters  capture up to 15 times more particles than a standard 1" filter. They trap dust, pet dander, pollen, mold spores, bacteria and other allergens in your home for up to 1 year.

HEPA air filtration system
HEPA air filtration system

HEPA filters were invented in the 1940s during the Manhattan project to prevent the spread of airborne radioactive contaminants. Over the following years the filter was adapted to serve some of the most critical environments such as the pharmaceutical laboratories, microchip and semiconductor manufacturing, and the aerospace industry. The HEPA filter in combination with ultraviolet air treatment is used in surgical operating rooms across the country to keep the air as clean as humanly possible.

HEPA filtration should be considered if you or someone in your household has serious medical conditions that call for extremely clean air.

Hybrid electronic air cleaner and media air filter

 Electronic air cleaner

Electronic air cleaners (EACs) utilize electricity to charge particles as they pass through the air cleaner. The charged particles are then trapped on collector plates. EACs by design are more capable of capturing smaller particles like smoke and small bacteria than media air cleaners. People with acute medical needs that call for an air cleaner will typically realize greater health benefits with an EAC. Some EACs also include a media filter to help increase their performance.
